Environment

There is something I have seen and considered, and just do not see as justified.
It really started when I was writing about bushfires. I have forgotten which fire it was (there have been so many of late) but a guy did something he was not supposed to (I do not condone that. The only time I will defy the law is if I am told to disobey God. I do not want to go there.)
This guy cleared the trees around his house. Where he was, they were told not to do that. The environment was to be preserved at all costs. For most people the environment was lost along with their houses. Not his.
This exemplifies the problems I have. There seems to be a school of thought that insists the environment and animals are more important than human life. This was exemplified when I went north a while ago. There was a creek I and many others used to play in. That cannot be done now, as there are signs warning of crocodiles.
I do not see myself as a pariah. The school that thinks “if it moves, shoot it, and if it does not, chop it down.” I actually see myself as a genuine conservationist. I recycle where I can, do not use chemicals in my yard, and do not litter. Birds and insects feel free to wander our yard knowing they will not encounter some toxic substance.
I care deeply for animals. This was brough home recently, and what happened blew me away. I was at a meeting where someone had an assistance dog. I thought “that dog needs water.” I was in a position to get some so I did. The dog drank big time and then did something I will never forget. He came over and thanked me (well his thank you was to lean against me and allow me to pat it). In fact, the owner said to me later “he thanked you.” Someone else who saw it, said it was the cutest thing they had seen in a long time.
I care and care deeply. I want things to have their spot. I just do not think they should have every spot. To me there is a place for everything in our ecosystem including humans. We do have a bad track record, and those that abuse should in my mind be held accountable. My problem is it seems I am assumed to be an abuser.
It almost seems like an all or nothing thing. Mankind has done the “all” and decimated the planet. Now the pendulum has swung to the other extreme. “Nothing.” The thing about pendulums to me is no matter which way they swing they reach the same point when they keep on going. It seems to me the same point is not good for me.
Anyway that is what I have been considering. I just do not think something imposed from without changes my heart, only something accepted from within can do that. In the meantime, my world is shrinking, and I am not sure it needs to.
