Enough to make you cry

Great holiday reading.  A book on crying.
I do find it interesting.  Men are taught in our society not to cry and it can have severe adverse effects.  Apparently men and women cry roughly the same amount until they are about 12 years old.  After that women are in the ascendency in that regard.
Something else I have found really interesting is that there is something known in medicine as “dry eye syndrome.”  It is a condition where someone genuinely cannot cry no matter how much they want to.
I know that tears have been a release for me when relations have passed away.  That is common apparently.  Most report that shedding tears help them to feel better.  On the whole it is healthy.
There are times where it is more appropriate to turn the tap off though.  Some are given to shedding tears at the drop of a hat, and there are times when it is inappropriate.
I am realistic enough to know that since my stroke brought on by the growth in my brain tumour, I am more inclined to shed a tear.  I really think it is a case of my real feelings are closer to the surface and more inclined to be displayed.
One of the things I have found really interesting is men are divided virtually in half as to those who rarely cry and those who do it more regularly.  Many men in particular have been influenced by the mantra that big boys don’t cry and crying is a sign of wimps.  Yet some of the most influential men were inclined to shed a tear.  Abraham Lincoln did as did Bob Hawke.
There is almost a continual stream of news to stories to make a person want to cry or of people crying because of some adverse event.  Yet it is almost like I have become immune to suffering.  People die all the time in the Ukraine and I change the channel.  Yet no matter where I look at the moment people are weeping.  It can be caused by war, floods, murder, starvation or many things.  There seems to be a consensus though that those sort of things happen to others and will not be my lot. The trouble is it can happen in the most mundane circumstance (shopping, or school.)
In some circumstances tears of compassion are discouraged.  In fact any emotion of pain or love is suppressed.  What remains is anger and lust.  To often what should provoke compassion provokes anger.
Still, I hope I shed tears at the appropriate time.  One thing does seem certain at the moment to me though, there seems to be enough bad stuff on display to bring on a tear.
