Enough is Enough

I never saw it but I was told about it and never forgot it.  It was an episode of the Simpsons.  Homer had his hand stuck in a vending machine.  Apparently, the drink was not dispensed so he went after it and got stuck.
People came and pulled the dispenser apart.  His hand was wrapped around the drink.  If he had of let go of the drink, he could have freed himself.
I bought a new fish tank at one stage.  It was hundreds of dollars.  I asked for a small discount and was not given one.  I thought I will never shop here again.  Instead of making say $200 they could have made $195 and we both would have felt like winners.
I had to get wood for my pool deck.  Someone was selling what I wanted second hand.  I asked for a $2 discount and did not get it.  I thought “you will always have trouble with money.”  It would not surprise me if it was like their money went into a bag with holes in it.  I do not wish it on anyone,  but they were tight.  Grasping.  Like Homer.
It is amazing how so often a liberal person gets more.  There is a need to be sensible but sensible is not clinging to what we cannot keep forever anyway.  Rich people like that ended up living lonely existences.  Howard Hughes was like that I think.  They get what they want, but it is bitter rather than sweet.  Enough is never enough.
Easier to say than do, but I know I need to take care I do not grasp and hold things, when what I have makes it within my power to make a difference for the better.  To withhold is like eating more food and becoming skinnier.
I have a friend who did not have much, but they put a plant in their front yard and loved to look at it from inside the home.  It was stolen.  I cannot help think that people may get what they want, but it does not satisfy.  It is like an insatiable appetite.  The more they have, the more they want.
Yet there are other rich people who willing give.  And they grow richer.  They are careful and wise, but do not cling.  If there is a need and they feel to, they meet it.
It seems riches are not jut a money thing.  It is an attitude thing.  What I have found is that a person that is tight in one thing is often tight in many things.  Yet a person who is rich in love or caring is often rich in other ways that matter.
They may not have a galzillion dollars but they have enough.  And enough is enough.
