Endurance

I have been looking up words I reckon may be good qualities to have.
There are things I like to be informed about but do not want to give a lot of time to.  Negative, hateful things that are a part of the world around me, and I know I should know about.  Things that would be wise to be aware of, but things I have no desire to be a part of.  The sort of things I seem to be seeing more and more of on the news.
I was looking up the word endurance.  I reckon that is a good quality to have but I must admit it is not my favourite word.  Endure always seems to imply putting up with.  Personally, I never need to endure eating ice-cream. But I do endure taking my meds.
Dictionaries may put thing different ways but they all seem to say the same thing.  Enduring is putting up with. “Sustain without yielding” (dictionary.com) or as Merriam-Webster says “to undergo without giving in.”
Yet for all, that I do think how I endure determines how good it is for me.  To endure is an admirable thing when the enduring is against something negative or bad.  There are times I know I endure when it would be easier to give in.  Yet I know that giving in is not good for me or anyone.  Giving in may compromise me or disqualify me for something I am going for. 
I know that has been a family trait.  Building something only to tear it down in a moment.  To me that is like incomplete enduring.  Like a marathon runner enduring running but giving up within sight of the tape signifying the end of the race.
Or I could angrily endure.  The enduring part may be good, but the anger may be totally unnecessary and destructive.
It seems better to me to patiently endure.  There are a couple of things I patiently endure.    It almost seems like a set of scales.  On one side is enduring and that may be a good thing.  But if on the other side is anger or self-pity, to me, they could easily offset the benefit of enduring.  To me, benefits are only benefits if I benefit.
Enduring by its nature is not easy.  I know I need help.  But when it is right it is always worth it.
