Easter

I reckon I should write something about Easter.  A person only needs to look at the brochures to see what Easter is all about these days.
It is a four-day holiday, which is a good time for taking away the family.  It is not too hot and not too cold.  Camping is popular.  Advertising brochures have good camping gear on sale - tents and chairs and whatever else is needed to make the trip comfortable.  Some of the things advertised I never knew existed let alone needed.
We all need to eat, and hot cross buns are good for that.  There are piles available.  They are good on their own or with butter.  The cross in the bun pays homage to the reason for the season.
Sunday is the time for hiding the Easter Eggs and having the kids go look for them.  It seems Easter is about the Easter Bunny.  We are trying to Australianise Easter though.  Replacing the Bunny with the endemic Bilby is being attempted.
If I do not go camping I can watch sport or maybe renovate.  Having four clear days is a good time to do it.  Hardware stores advertise everything needed.
It is great to have four days off.  The celebration can be done for what-ever reason, as long as the holiday is not taken away.  The holidays would probably remain though.  Everyone enjoys them, and there is too much money to be made.  Even if we become a republic, they will probably give the Queen’s birthday another name, and we should still have our holiday.  The public outcry would no doubt be too great to make trying to remove it worthwhile. 
Christmas and Easter are church time.  It is the tradition for some.  Easter is a religious thing.  Friday is about the death of Christ.  Sunday is the resurrection.  Someone dying for my sins (a totally yesterday word) and rising again?   It is not what is taught except in religious instructions maybe.  That stuff will be grown out of.  Easter is just a rebranded pagan festival celebrating the arrival of Spring (in the northern hemisphere).
I love our public holidays.  Australia Day, Easter, ANZAC Day, Labour Day, the Queens birthday and Christmas.  Easter in particular is a great time for doing a lot of things like camping, hunting and eating Easter eggs (though the only hunting I do these days, is to go somewhere and pick it off the shelf - but the eating makes hunting worthwhile really), eating hot cross buns, doing projects or veg’ing.  Four days off.  Yahoo!!  Ok I am retired now, and every day is a holiday (yeah right). 
In a sense though if I do not have love it does not matter what I believe.  Anything I say is just noise.    I am so sus of folk that come across hard.  It is great to make a stand but not if it costs all relationships except those of like mind.
I am 61 and a believer.  I guess I never grew out of it.  I just do not want to forget the reason for the season.
