Early Riser

As someone would say, “goodness gracious…..you….chooks.”  Actually the chooks part has nothing to do with anything.  I just wanted to say it.  It used to refer to the media people.
The goodness gracious part though is legitimate for me.  I must have got the time wrong.  I normally get up at four am.  When I looked at the clock it said ten to.  I really thought it was four.  I have just sat down to write and it is 25 to four.  I did a double take and checked another clock.  25 to 4.  It must have been ten to three I got up.
Just as well I do not make a lot of noise.  Washing up has never involved the use of heavy machinery.  If I drop a pot that can clang but I have never made enough noise to wake Merril (that I know of).
Perhaps I got up so early because yesterday I slept so much.  That day is my designated day off.  I generally do not have much planned, but sleeping is one of the few things on my list.  I do it really well.
I know that I sleep because so often I recline with the intention of watching the news or the like, and there are huge gaps.  I might get the start of it and then hear the announcer sighing off.  I generally know at that point I have missed something.
Recently, (not on a day off) I did that before an on-line appointment.  I was late.  I apologized but was thankfully met with understanding by those I was meeting with.  Like it could happen to anyone.  Well it could but I am going to try to make sure it does not happen again.  No promises though.  Anything is possible.  Getting up so early this morning testifies to that.
One thing about being up at this hour.  It is so quiet.  Anyone would think everyone was sleeping.  I was going to say it is probably just as well for Merril I have nothing urgent to tell her.  But actually, it is probably just as well for me.
I learned my lesson when I was courting Merril.  I rang her at 10pm to be all lovey dovey and she answered the phone with “somebody better be dead.”  I made a mental note at that point not to ring her late.
It is now nearly four am.  This would be the time I would normally be getting up.  I am wide awake.  As it is winter first light is more than two hours away.  I reckon I will do a few things and maybe go back to bed.  I want to check there are no leaks in my eyelids.
