Dump Run

15/4/2020

The Dodgy Brothers have a new employee.  It’s sort of a sign of the times.  It’s a female.  Her name is Merril.
She and Peter had a job to do today.  Green rubbish needed to be taken to the dump.  The trailer was loaded, and the first trip went without incident.
The second trip was different.  Neither could back a trailer.  Some people can do it like it is second nature.  Turning left to go right and right to go left.  Silly trailer has a mind of its own.  Turn left and it veers wildly.  Peter would have more chance of walking a straight line after consuming three bottles of rum.  The correction works for about five centimetres before the trailer heads wildly in the other direction.  On the first trip there was room to do a wide entry and approach the place to dump rubbish.  For the second trip there was not that room.
No worries.  With the car spread-eagled across the road meaning no one else could get past, Peter unbuckled the trailer and pushed it into place.  Merril drove the car to the place it should be.
Unpacking the rubbish went well.  The pair were like a well-oiled machine.  Each had a role and did it proficiently. Unloading the rubbish was a joint effort.  It took no time at all.
Peter reattached the trailer.  That went smoothly apart from Peter not being able to see if the brake lights were working because the sun was right in his eyes.  They swapped places and Merril cupped her hand over the light and saw it worked.
Time to head out.  Merril turned the car to leave, and realized a log was in the back that needed to be dumped.  She suggested Peter dump it while she pulled over.  Peter got the log and was about to cross the road when suddenly it seemed every man and his dog were at the dump.
Cars were coming and going.  Eventually a gap appeared, and Peter crossed after being waved through by a driver.  The walk to the dump face passed without incident except someone calling out “forgotten something?!”
Peter dumped the log, but cars were still coming and going.  Peter decided the best way to get across the road was to go under the rope and walk that way.  Except someone was backing their vehicle right where he wanted to walk.   That lead to an immediate change of plan.  Eventually he crossed the road, but everyone was older.
To leave there is a left turn and then right.  At the left turn Merril was going to go right.  She said she gets that turn confused with the right hand one up further.  We could have visited places we had never been.
There is no doubt though.  Merril fits right in.
