Drop It...Drop It

Over the last week or so I have had glimpses of something fluttering around and coming and going.  Today I fee like it has come home to roost.
Persistence.  I cannot honestly say what dictionary it is, but I felt it hit the nail on the head in defining persistence as “continuing firmly or obstinately in an opinion or course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition”
I was reminded of when I had a dog.  I had a bone or something attached to a rope.  The dog wanted it.  When I thew it he latched onto it and was not going to let it go.  At one stage he was airborne as I moved around in circles holding the rope while he held onto the bone.  He was not going to let it go despite my efforts to get the bone back.
That to me is persistence. “continuing firmly… in a course of action in spite of difficulty…”  Ok I was making life difficult for him in wanting the bone back, but despite the difficulties he held on.
Like in just about everything persistence can be a good or bad thing.  I was persistent in wanting a particular group of songs by I think Mozart or Schubert. I eventually got them but that is a time when I do not think persistence was a good thing.  It was persisting in something just to get what I wanted.  Yet what I wanted was not what I needed and instead of getting joy or satisfaction I had an emptiness.
I have also seen others persist in a course of action that was counter-productive to attracting others but pushed them away.  Positive persistence was needed to stick with the person and believing for the best when walking away would be the easy option.
I am glad there is someone persistent with me.  I have been both bad and good at holding on during difficulties.  Yet I do know my aspiration is to hold on.  Like they say “hang in there Saturday is coming.”
To me good persistence garners growing rewards.  There are rewards along the way and rewards to look forward to.  Sure there are difficulties but seeing through difficulties shows determination and despite being unpleasant build strength.
In that regard I am a work in progress but the key word for me is progress.
