Dress Up

5/5/2019

So that I can find it again I have called this Dress Up.  But I don’t know if I should do that as I am not wearing a dress.  In the mean time I guess I will go with it.
We were invited out for dinner.  It was a dress up do.
That was not problem for Merril.  She came out, “should I wear this or this or this.”  For me it was a different story though.  I did not know if I even had any dress up clothes.
Somehow track suite pants and sandshoes did not seem appropriate.  I knew I could have played the “he does not know what he is doing” card.  The thing was though, I did know what I was doing.
I had to find dress up clothes.  I thought I may have a pair of long pants in a container in the shed.  So I went there.  Then I remembered the container was not in the shed but inside. So I went there.  Pants solved.
I had no end of shirts to choose from.  Well there was an end, but there were many of them.  I chose one that matched the pants.  I envisaged wearing my multi-purpose belt.  It is grey and can be used on a multitude of pants.  I did not need to.  I found a belt I did not know I had.  It was right at the bottom of my “belts.”  It looked right.
I could not wear my favourite jumper as I had left it at someone’s place.  It had been lost property at table tennis.  I wore it in front of everybody in the hope that someone would say “I have a jumper just like that.”   But no-one did.  I kept it.  It fitted perfectly.
Shoes were going to be interesting.  I had looked at my shoes and none seemed right.  One pair I swim in no matter how thick the socks are I am wearing.  There were other pairs there, but I wanted something different.  Then I discovered a pair in the container.  The container is my going away stuff.  Things have been migrating from there into my potentially use now stuff.  Still, what I have is a start anyway.
What I did not realize was how small the shoes were.  I had deliberately worn thick socks.  When I put the shoes on, I felt like I imagine one of those people that has their feet bound to keep them small feels.  But they looked good.  They were dressy without being too dressy.
We went.  It was a 65th wedding anniversary.  For Merril and I to achieve that, I would be like 120 years old.  There was a letter from the Queen and one from the Prime Minister and the Governor General.  The time was good and the food was exceptional.  Admittedly Merril and I were in a stupor by the end.  Everything tasted great.  We both needed rest time.  Sleep was calling.
