Dream

I heard a phrase the other day used in a context I had not used before.  I loved it.  It was “the dream team.”
I had heard that in relation to having a lot of good players together at the one time or the thought of doing so.  I reckon in cricket the likes of having Don Bradman and Greg Chappell and Dennis Lillie and Glen McGrath on the one team would be like having a dream team.  I actually thought Queensland had a dream State of Origin team when we won the series like seven years in a row.
Yet this Dream Team was different.  It was a group of dreamers.  People that knew that the way things were, was not the way it had to be.
To me the most effective dreamers are those who think outside the box.  I thought Steve Jobs was a dreamer.  He created markets that did not exist at the time and ones we did not know we wanted - but now everyone wants.
What I really liked about his dreaming is, in my opinion, he did things well.  Products were not only reliable they were desirable.
But what I really like is that a good dreamer does not need to be a Steve Jobs.  It can be a Steve Smith who lives two doors down or a Margaret Jones in the next suburb.
To me it is not only the big, public dreamer I want to see, but the everyday person unshackled by the status que.  The one unwilling to throw their hands up and declare it is all too hard.  The one that knows a problem may be big, but inside they are bigger.
Trees grow in rocky outcrops and rocks are worn down by the constant drip of water.  Some things may take more than a lifetime to solve, but they are solvable.
To me it is like having a faraway look.  Knowing that by doing my bit, the way things are now is not the way it will always be.
Practical dreamers change things.
