Doxing

I was reading the meaning of a word today and it contained a word I had never heard of.  I thought I will look that up and hope I have some understanding about what they are talking about.  I did increase my understanding, but it contained two words I did not know the meaning of, so I looked them up too.
I actually found it took me on quiet an interesting journey.  In doing it, I came across a list of words the Washington Post publishes that are current words with a different (tongue in cheek) meaning applied.
It contained “coffee” “the person upon whom one coughs.”  “Flabbergasted” “appalled over how much weight you have gained.”  “Abdicate” “to give up hope of ever having a flat stomach.” “Lymph” “to walk with a lisp.” And “Esplanade” “to attempt an explanation while drunk.”
There were others and I found them all entertaining.  If I knew what stuff meant I would have missed out.
But the word that caused me to embark on the search was “Doxing.”  According to Wikipedia doxing is “the act of publicly revealing previously private personal information about an individual or organization, usually through the Internet.”  Apparently, it is a strategy sometimes used to discredit an opponent.  Mostly it is done with malicious intent.
Another word I had to look up as a result of reading was “neologism.”  It is a recent or isolated word in the process of entering common use.  I read “neologisms are more mature than protologisms.”  I could have told you that if I knew.  But “A word whose development stage is between that of the protologism (freshly coined) and neologism (new word) is a prelogism.”  To which I say, “who cares.”  I suppose that is not really fair.  These things matter to some.  I just want to understand what I am reading.
But then I read that brunch is an example of a “portmanteau” and not a neologism as it was stated elsewhere.   Ohhh controversy in the wordsmith world.  Portmanteau has a couple of meanings, but I am sure they were not talking about the one that meant travel bag.  Motel is another example of a “portmanteau” combining “motor” and “Hotel”
But then I came across something that was a real eye opener.  “A portmanteau word is similar to a contraction, but contractions are formed from words that would otherwise appear together in sequence, such as do and not to make don't, whereas a portmanteau is formed by combining two or more existing words that all relate to a single concept. A portmanteau also differs from a compound, which does not involve the truncation of parts of the stems of the blended words. For instance, starfish is a compound, not a portmanteau, of star and fish, as it includes both words in full.”
I think I am in danger of hurting myself.  I just want milk that tastes like real milk.  I did enjoy this journey, but I am over it.  Didn’t take long really.
