Double Standards

17/5/2018

There is something I see and I have a real problem understanding.  It is double standards.  So often I have heard someone upbraid a person for not meeting some requirement, only to find that not meeting that standard, is acceptable to the accuser for themselves.  When this happens I guess it would be safe to say I am flabbergasted – not at what is done, but at the fact that the person involved does not see what is happening.
I realize that every time I point a finger there are three pointing back at me.  I also realize I need to deal with the beam in my own eye.  I tend to see things black and white in a grey world.
There was a lady at work who’s name I cannot remember who said something that has been a motto for me.  She said something to the effect that “it needs to be right for all, or not at all.”  I think our laws are based on a standard for all.
I have found that where a procedure does not contravene a higher law, (as the Nania series puts it) that it needs to be complied with.  There is certainly self interest in this. If I am not the one with the power then it behoves me to conform.  There have been things I have had to do that gave me no pleasure in doing.  However doing them was like first base.  If I did not meet the basic requirements I could not go on.  Of course then there would be a whole new set of challenges.
Computers are really good at this.  If a field is not completed correctly then the computer highlights the field so it can be done right.  Complying actually reminds me of computer games I see.  To get to the next level one needs to complete certain requirements on the level before.
I think personally we all have blind spots.  If we could see them we would not be blind!  There are things that for me I see as ok, but they really are not – they don’t do me, or anyone else any good.
As they say talk is cheap (or cheep if you are a chicken).  There are things I need to deal with, and when one is dealt with, there is always another.  I guess it is a lifelong occupation.
I care about others but I am not living their life.  One is enough thank you, and I already have my hands full with mine.
As one teacher wrote of me “is trying.”  By that did they mean “he is giving it his best shot” or “he is difficult and I will be glad when he is gone.”  I never did figure
that one out so I went with the first interpretation.  That is me to this day.
