Doing What I Can

8/1/2024

This covid has gone on longer than I anticipated.  But I must say I have been really fortunate.  It has been way milder than it has been for some.  I have honestly had worse flu’s.  But there is one thing about it that has stopped me in my tracks.  That is the tiredness.  I decided a while ago that the only way to beat this thing was to make sure I rested.  There was a lot of stuff around the yard that I was wanting to do that I decided should wait until I had my strength back.  I had a real sense that if I neglected to do what I had to do, it would bite me hard.
But I do have an outlook that works for me in such circumstances.  I feel that if something is bad then I need to look for and do the good.  I have been unable to get out and do physical things.  But I have been able to work at the computer while resting up.
I have been really pleased with some of the things done while resting up.  Granted it is not like it used to be, in that I need to rest more anyway.  But I feel this time has not been one of yielding to lethargy, but one of focusing my attention on what I could do rather than what I couldn’t.
This is an outlook that has been very real to me since the tumour and stroke.  In some ways it would have been easy to stop where I was and bemoan loss.  Yet it has become a time of recognising loss but concentrating on what I have rather than what I don’t have.
In this time I have been learning new skills.  Doing other things I have not done in ages.  Recognising inadequacies but seeking help where I needed it, rather than giving up.
I have been working on producing a magazine.  I know there are those that could do it way better than me, yet that has not stopped me from giving it a go.  The thing is too, I am a bit of a perfectionist so what I do is continues improvement.
I do remember someone saying a book is never finished in that the author is inclined to go back to something again and again and tweak it.  It does not matter that it may have been published long ago.
I feel I understand that.  I may be engaged in continues improvement, but it is really important to me to just get it out there.  Things could be done better but the price of never getting it done is not one I am willing to pay.
So here I am chaffing at the bit to do the things I had in mind to do, yet doing what I can do.  There is fulfillment in that.
