We have a bowl of fruit out.  It has pride of place in the lounge room.  Both ourselves, or anyone who visits can grab and eat a piece of fruit at any time.    It looks really good.  Well it did.  The remaining fruit is sort of wrinkly.  Put it this way, if I was visiting us, I would not want to eat it.
My thought process may be incredibly skewed, but I went down that track because I was thinking how dangerous it can be to know something I should do and not do it.  I may know not to drive on the right-hand side of the road, but if I do not do it the results can be catastrophic.  Reminds me of an ad I saw on tv.  A guy was driving on the wrong side of the road into a procession of on coming traffic.  His wife heard on the news someone was driving on the wrong side of the road, so she rang her husband to warn him.  His response?  “There are hundreds of em.”
This is not talking about something that is always incorrect.  Like theft.  They say “two wrongs don’t make a right.”  Nor does one wrong.  If something is not right, it is always not right.  It does not matter how pretty it is made to look.  Nothing can alter its nature.
I had a friend who loved to sit at their kitchen table and look out on a plant they had put there.  One night someone stole the plant.  When my friend sat down, there was no longer a plant to look at.  They mourned.  The person who took it may have justified their action.  “It is just one plant.”  “My garden is devoid of plants.” “I can’t afford plants.” “That plant will look better where I put it.”  All that is speculation though.  They may have just wanted it and taken it.  Whatever their justification was, it was never going to be the right thing to do.
By the same token, when I do not do something that is right for me to do at the time, I can miss my chance.  Like the bowl of fruit.  It was right I eat what was there for my health.  I have missed my chance though.
Worse still for me is if there is something I do not do that is always right. Like “love each other.”  Ok, my love may manifest itself in an unexpected way, but it is always right to love to someone else.  The thing I can do though, is justify my not doing it.  “That person hurt me big time.” “Their behaviour does not meet my standards.”  “I know what that person is really like.”  Whatever my justification, I can treat another with distain, and justify my not loving them even though it is always the right thing to do.
I am really good at theory.  The best I can do is be trying.  Though not in the way that one teacher put in comments, “very trying.”
