Dogs

I have said before how I love cats, but they are really not my favourite people as they do not belong here.  I must admit though there was a time recently where I had never wanted to see a cat as much in my life.
It had had a bad experience.  A dog in an adjoining property had gotten out.  Speaking later with the owner he knew exactly where that had happened.  Apparently, there was a part of the fence that was susceptible to being dug under.
This dog had found the place and did it.  He was considered a “dangerous breed.”  I do not know much about such things, but I do wonder if a lifetime of enjoyment is worth a moment of having the dog annoyed.  Owners say they are beautiful dogs and they are but animal, vegetable or mineral, given the right circumstances what is inside will come out.  I had a dog that bit a kid in my yard.  Fortunately, there was no lasting damage.  The dog was not considered a “dangerous breed.”
The kid was just being a kid.  Pulling tails and ears and really anything it could get its hands on.  Some dogs will just trot away while others will let their annoyance be known.  I personally would not like my tail pulled incessantly.  If I had a tail of course.  Maybe fingers works better.  At first it could be novel, but after a while it would probably get to me.   It is not in my nature to bite though.
I was walking down the street one time and a dog who had been allowed outside their yard went me.  He charged straight at me.  I stood perfectly still and awaited my fate.  I had heard standing still was a good thing to do but this was the first time I had needed to prove if that was right or not.  It was right.  The dog jumped up but did not open it’s mouth.  I must confess my heart was beating pretty hard.  I saw its owner sitting on steps in his yard.  I told him “I have a dog, but he doesn’t do that.”  The owner looked like he had seen it all before.
At home here the dog in an adjoining property had dug his way out and was inside another adjoining property.  They have a cat.  Their domestic bliss was shattered.  I do not know how long it had been since the dog had had a meal, but eating the cat suddenly seemed to be on its to do list.
I only know this as I was playing table tennis in my shed and heard the commotion.  I went to assist if I could.  Another neighbour was there for the same reason.  The dog let go of the cat, but the cat disappeared.
We were standing about wondering what to do when Merril came over and suggested we take the dog to our place on a lead and contact the owner.  We did that.  The dog was really lovely.  There was a number on its collar so we phoned the council to determine the owner.  The council contacted the owner and rang us back to say the owner would collect it.  That was when we found out the dog was from another adjoining property.
The cat turned up again later.  It was ok and life has returned to normal.
