Do Nothing

We have activity days and do nothing days.  We are good at both, but I reckon the do nothing days are our real strength.
I think if two “do nothing” jobs were going we would get them.  If 10 of us applied, I can see us all lining up and the person running the test saying “you all did really well, but as you know I can only pick two for the jobs.  Would these people please step forward (if it was a tv show they would go to an ad).  “Peter and Merril.”  We would step forward and the others would clap.  Then we would give all the others a hug.  They would go on their way and we would find out about our “do nothing” jobs.
Yesterday was a do nothing day.  The only thing planned was a visit later from my oldest brother.
I was up early taking photo’s.  The sunrise was spectacular and I got a few shots.  More often than not, I can just put it on automatic and it focuses and takes the shot.  I have been using the manual setting to try and get birds on the wing.  That is harder.  Not the sort of hard where I am out of breath and need water and a rest, but the sort of hard where an hour later I can still be trying.
Birds on the wing tend to be moving.  The focal point keeps changing.  I only have a very brief time to get it right.  One photo I did quite like, but closer inspection showed it was a dud.  If a bird is on a branch at the back of a tree that is ok.  I am happy to adjust the focal length to highlight the bird rather than the tree.  But birds on the wing are not as compliant.  Merril took photo’s too, and we spent a lot of time looking at them on our computers and keeping the ones we liked.
My bro arrived at two pm.  We had gotten him two gifts.  He is right into golf.  We got him a cap that said “Broome Golf Club.”  We did not know there was such a thing till we looked it up.  There is.  It seems quite nice too.  The other gift was a book called “The History of Smuggling.”  It was a joke, as it had nothing in it except a cut out area containing an item.  Great for smuggling really.  I can imagine someone gravitating to that book and then being surprised at what it contained.
While he was here, a guy was launching a fishing kayak.  I really liked his set up but it was like the Queen Mary was being launched.  It took ages.  After my bro had gone I saw the kayak return.  The guy spent ages trying to get it out of the water and night was falling.  He was old.  It really would not surprise me if that was the last time he ever took it out.  I waited before offering him a hand.  To me, everyone has their dignity, and the last thing any of us want is someone offering help when we do not want it.  He was grateful.  Another person came along and assisted to.  Eventually the kayak was fine to pull along to guys home.
That was a do nothing day.  Today is an activity day.  “Activity” is a word used loosely.  We will amble someplace and take photo’s.  That’s enough really.  Don’t want to over do it.
