Distractions

Distractions are well…a distraction.  I am not easily distracted…oh look, a butterfly.  Where was I.  Arr yes distractions.  The Allies did it in WW2.  They set up a whole pretend camp under the cover of darkness.  It was to make the Axis powers think the invasion of Europe would occur from that point.  All the while it was going to occur from somewhere else.  It worked.
To me a distraction is anything that diverts my attention from my goal.  I guess in one sense it is easy for me to articulate what it is not.  I am big on balance.  There are times when in the pursuit of my goal I do things that seem as far removed from my goal as possible.
For me it may be sorting my stamp collection.  Or working in the garden.  Or housework.  I reckon there is a time for everything, and a goal always includes things that refresh.  Sometimes the best thing I can do is to do something unrelated to my goal.
I had to learn the importance of a day off.  I used to work pretty hard in my job.  At one stage it became a 24/7 thing.  I never minded giving a extra day to it.  Sometimes it was just thinking things through.  At other times it was doing stuff.
I will never forget when it became 24/7.  It was weird.  I felt like I achieved two half days instead of one whole day.   And I was never more exhausted.  I felt I achieved nothing, and my role was less alluring than normal.
If I feel I do not have time I need to make time for what matters.
For me there is the rub.  It is what matters.  I have found that people answer that differently.  I do know what it is for me though.  It is putting God first and attempting to do what he would have me do.  For me that is the best way for balance.  There are things that excite me and would seem to be removed from that goal, but they are not.
Work is a part of life, but it is not life.  Family is a part of life, but it is not life.  Getting along side people is a part of life but it is not life.   It is one thing I do even though it contains many components.
For me it is not about following a set of rules as I am no good at that.  Some things that are a danger to life and limb I have no trouble doing, and other things I just know not to do I do not have trouble with.  It is the things that may not be wrong in themselves but are wrong for me at that time I have trouble with.  To me it is a matter of crossing the bridge when I come to it.
Worry to me can be having an undue concern for something before it comes.  It is too easy to do, but pointless.  Also the past is the past.  There are things I have said and done and things I should have said and done that never happened.  But that is the past.  Within my goal it is a matter of confessing and moving on.  I could be stuck in the past if I let myself be.
For me the best I can do is press onwards.  The past cannot be changed, the future has not happened.  Now is what I have.  I want to use it to help reach my goal.
