Disk Space

30/8/2023

It occurred to me just before that the scan on my computer is the way I like to operate.
When I do a scan often it says, “very good” but after a while it says “good” “make improvements?”  The improvements are always to find more disk space.  It does, and always without exception then says “very good” again.  What it is doing is putting files together so there is a large area of free disk space.
Why this is the same as I like to operate is when I have multiple tasks I will, when I can, put them on the same day and thus free up the other days.
I do like to do things that way.  My aim is to have as much free time available for the longest time possible.  That frees up the day to do big tasks, or many little tasks.  I know that sometimes I goof off with the free time, while at other times I make the most of the time doing tasks I may not have been able to at the time.  Either way, I do because I can.
Life for me is a balancing act between home life and the volunteer work I do, plus engagements I choose to go to.  Sometimes I cannot arrange my schedule the way I prefer, and that is just the way it is.
I am big on choice.  Someone the other day said they had been moaning about their schedule.  Instead of moaning they changed it.  At least a quarter of their time was freed up by their choice.  They could concentrate on what they were good at, and others took on what they were good at.
Personally, I reckon that is really important.  As much as possible I say no to things that I don’t need to do myself in the knowledge someone else will do the job - probably better than I can.  This frees me up to do the things I am good at.
I wrote about this sort of thing the other day in “Approval Addiction.”  One of my mottos is “the need does not determine the call.”  By that I take it that just because something is needed, I am necessarily the one to do it.
Sometimes some things just need to be done, and I as the person in charge need to do it if no one else is available.  But more often than not it seems a task is not something I personally need to do.
In that case I find “no” is a great stress reliever.  Besides my saying yes can sometimes keep someone who can do it better than me and actually wants it, from doing the task.  I can stand in the way of another’s development.
So I free up the “disk space” in my life to enable me to do more of what I know I am best at.
