Disasters

There seem to be some major disasters happening.  At the moment there are wild fires in Greece that have claimed many lives.  Japan had a major flood (the poor people in one town, carried their belongings up to the top floor to escape the disaster, only to have an explosion at a nearby aluminium plant send out a major shock wave and destroy what was being saved)
A few years back we had flood here.  My place flooded. It is not like the water was a rushing torrent.  It was deceptively calm. “Oh there is water in the back yard.  That is ok, I have seen that before.  Oh the water is on the back landing.  That is different.  You can stop now. Oh there is water right through the house.  Dad please sit down.”
I heard of one lady in the US who’s house was on the “once in 50 years” line.  It flooded.  So she moved to the “once every 500 years” line.  It flooded soon after too.  New Orleans flooded. The east coast of the US was hit by a huge weather system.
Unfortunately we are used to seeing these things in third world countries.  Dams break and villages are inundated.  Mud slides occur.
There seems to be a school of thought that says, we see more now because we can see more now.  The thing for me is, there seems to be a rise is what is occurring.  Sometimes what occurs happens suddenly (Christchurch) and sometimes it is like it is in slow motion (Hawaii).  Of course the media likes to show the worst of this.  These days there seems to be no shortage of things to cover.
What strikes me about what is occurring is how indiscriminate these events are.  It matters not if a person is rich or poor, good looking or ordinary, happy or sad.  These events happen to all.  They are not like santa claus and ask if you have been bad or good.  It seems to matter not how a person has been, things happen.
There are other reasons, but it seems to be why some people move to a place they perceive is safe.  I ask myself is anywhere that way these days?  Certainly some places are better to be then others, and it is better to be in a certain condition than in others, but disasters can happen to anyone at any time.  None of us are immune.
I used to think where I live was immune.  Earthquakes are really rare and mild.  There are no close by volcanos.  However floods got us. Bushfires happen. For some things it just seems that if the right conditions happen the “unprecedented” transpires.
I personally am not fearful of what might or might not happen.  After all, I have no control over many things.  I think all I can be is ready.  As a person who gave me some really good stamps said, “hold them loosely.”
Anything can happen, at any time.
