Different Way

Sometimes I read things that spark a different way to view things. I will consider and embrace it if I think it is the way to go. At other times I read things and they confirm thoughts I have already had, only put a different way.

I have heard it said that a sign of insanity is to do something the same way and expect different results. I read something today and it is basically the same. It was “only a different approach will bring different results.”

I cannot imagine any of the inventors of note stopping when they had something “like” what they wanted to achieve. The reasons inventions are considered great is they achieve what they set out to, and in the case of good intentions, change lives for the better.

So often things seem to be done the same way and failure and disappointment result. Or if that is not the case, then the expected result is achieved when what could be expected could be so much greater. In that case it takes someone to take it further. So often people admit they are achieving something on the shoulders of someone who has gone before them. They refine and make it better.

I may be getting long in the tooth, but my usefulness is not over. My usefulness so much depends on what I perceive my usefulness to be. If I imagine the best is behind me and that it is only downhill from here, that is the way it will be.

I felt really strongly one day that for me the best was yet to be. Low and behold someone came up to me who I had never met and said out of the blue, the best is yet to be. Merril and I just looked at each other, as we had been talking about it that day.

Maybe part of the reason I follow this line of thought is that I am older myself, but my heart really goes out to older people. Society implies they are “has beens.” Certainly, my experience is I cannot do what I once could. But I still feel there is heaps I can do. More than enough I reckon. A person is only a has been who has been – and gone.

What has that got to do with doing something a different way? It seems to me everything. A different way may be needed but so much can be done. Just because something cannot be done the way it was, does not mean it cannot be done. Maybe it is just a different way that is needed.
