Devolve

Merril chose the word from the dictionary this time.  It is a doozy I reckon.  “Devolve.”
Devolve can mean a few things but I default to thinking of it as the devolution of power.  The giving of a task or tasks to someone, who, does not so much have authority, but who has been given the task or tasks to do.  Their authority is the authority of the asker.
The asker remains answerable for the final result.  They do not need to do what is asked, but need to make sure it is done.
I actually have seen and continue to see this sort of thing all the time.  I think it is the difference between achieving a little or a lot.
The only way someone can achieve everything themselves is to not set out to achieve much in the first place.  Even then it is generally an incredible amount of work and a really quick path to burn out.
On the other hand, when responsibilities are devolved to others who have a passion for what is being asked of them, the amount achieved grows.  It is totally necessary to have the right person or people’s doing the right job.  I am of the opinion it is better to have no one than the wrong person doing s particular job.
The temptation is to fill a role to enable the asker to get on with what they really want to do, or feel is most important at the time.  But it seems to me having the wrong person doing a job is more time consuming than leaving it vacant and either doing it yourself or leaving it undone.
The devolution of tasks is the domain of those who have the capacity to do it.  Either there is an abundance of people vying for the job, or there is a limited number of people to choose from with a passion for the roles and the skillsets needed.
To me devolution increases a capacity for growth when the asker has confidence that the task will be done maximizing benefit.  Experience shows It can be messy, but the windfall can be huge.
