Delight

Some words I really like to look at.  A person could probably say they are a delight to look at.  I know the word “delight” was.  Probably in its simplest from it is “great pleasure, joy.”
It is a word I do not hear much of these days.  “Delighted I’m sure.” Is not a response I hear.  Actually, I am glad they are sure.  I would not like to think a response of “I’m leaning towards delighted” or that the response was “delighted, but I am just saying that.”
These days it is more likely to be “totally wrapped dude.”  Well maybe not, but somewhere in between.  These days a delightful time is likely to be “I had a ball.”  No matter.  Whatever expression is used it generally conveys that a really good time was had.
I know when I see a good friend I have not seen in a while, my response is one of delight no matter what expression is used to convey my feelings about seeing them.
It seems to me my response is delight when a good expectation is met.  Delight is never my response to a bad outcome.  It can be a pleasant surprise though.  Like if I say the right thing and it seems perfect for the recipient.  I feel good.  I’m wrapped.  I’m delighted.
Or when a a few of us have been working on something and a plan comes together.  For me often the response could just as easily be described as relief too.  I know I always want a rest after something like that, but the inclination is to relive the moment.  So often people get together and go over events in fine detail.  Each person retelling something that impacted them.
I really delight in the fact the way I feel can be turned around.  Yesterday evening I felt flat.  I was in “woe is me” mode.  Yet I knew that was just a feeling not based in reality, but just based in emotions I felt at the time.  I personally feel it is important I determine the real reason I feel a certain way (it may be health related and some action on my part is needed).  Or on the other hand, and as is often the case, it is not something it is wise for me to accept.
Goodness knows where I heard it but someone once said, “never make a decision when you are down.”  I like that and reckon it has kept me from blowing it on a number of occasions.  At the very least I like to wait as a negative decision based on a negative feeling has a negative result.
Besides, things are so often not as they appear.  I like to encourage myself.  Truth is, I have heaps to be thankful for.  This will pass.  Storms have an ending.  They are never pleasant to go through but are not a forever thing.  For me so often it is “hang in there.”  When my perspective is right sorrow turns to delight.
