Delays

There is a saying that says something like, “work increases in inverse proportions to it importance.”  Meaning the less important something is, it seems it demands an unreasonable amount of time and resources.
I have been trying to think of something like that for what happened yesterday.  I had been considering it, then Merril told me what happened to her, and it sort of sealed it in my mind.
It is something like the more I want to get something done, the more obstacles will be in my way.
Merril was out.  She had done banking and needed to get some butter.  She had forgotten to take a bag into the shop, but thought if I can hurry from the shop to the car and home it will be ok.
It was then she was hindered by a really slow couple who she could not get past.  Then to her horror they got on the same trolley escalator she did but in front of her.  They were side by side and impossible to get past.
Meanwhile I was home.  I had a task I wanted to complete that I normally have done the day before.  That had not happened due to the business of the day before.  But I had a plan.  Merril and I get up and go to a prayer meeting really early.  The plan was to then come home, me pack the car with containers for cash, go to her appointment together and I would work on what I wanted while she was at the doctors.  After that we would drop off the containers and I would finish at home what I started that morning.
I had done what I could on my computer while she was at the doctors.  We were delayed a little as the person doing blood tests had phoned in sick.  They were waiting for another to arrive.  We dropped off the containers and went back to the doctors.  A slight delay but stuff was done that needed doing.
When we got home I worked on the remainder of what I wanted to get done and send out.  I could not understand why my computer was telling me my battery was about to run out when I had it connected to the mains.
Was it the computer?  Was it the chord?  Was it the power board?  Was it the power socket?  Merril investigated and we found all power was off.  It was then we discovered we had been warned that was going to happen that day.
So I had no power and no way to finish what I had started until the power came back on.  That was due to happen in about 5 hours.
Eventually it came back on and I finished what I had started.  About 9 hours after I thought I would finish it.
Oh well.  It is done.  I checked outside and the world did not end.  But it was a case of the best laid plans.
