Defining Moment

I was listening to a song this morning and it talked about this being your defining moment.  It got me interested in the word defining.  I thought how I have many defining moments.  Some are definitely more important than others though.
I thought each time I make a decision, it is a defining moment.  When I press “send” on emails it is like I am committed to that now.  Sometimes I look at it and would like to be able to get it back.  Not necessarily because of what I have said, but because of the number of mistakes I see.
I have been one to check and recheck something before I send it.  Inevitably if I do not check it then I look at what I have sent and realize I need to live with it.
Bigger defining moments have been jobs I have taken on.  In Townsville they were all important but choosing to move to Brisbane was a biggy. I definitely did not see writing in the sky saying, “move to Brisbane.”  Quiet the contrary.  I ummed and arred and I distinctly remember having my bag packed and putting it in the car and removing it again.  Finally I decided to come down here.  It was for a mates wedding, but I had a list of three jobs that were on offer at the time.
The one I was particularly interested in was the one at QUT.  I remember ringing them after the interview and them saying a decision had not been made yet but to ring back.  I thought this must be a goer if they want me to call back.
The rest is history.  I got it and life was never the same.  I did eventually get climatized.  When I first came to Brisbane I found it really cold.  I got over it and when I went back to Townsville I found it really hot.  I thought, “I’m never coming back here in summer.”
It seems to me my life has been made up of many defining moments.  Some are not as momentous as others, but all revel who I am.
The ones I reckon are most momentous are the ones that alter my destiny.  Where I live matters.  Who I am matters.  In one sense many of my decisions may be inconsequential to others, but they are all important to me.  Circumstances may back me into a corner, but mostly I get to choose my temporal home and always get to choose my eternal one.
