Declare

I really do not know how it is for others, but I can think something to my hearts content.  Until I say it, I can change my mind at any time.  I find the time before a declaration is a good time to consider something.  The last thing I want to do is race in and say something, only to regret it.
On the other hand, once I say it, I feel there is a measure of commitment.  It may only be saying to Merril it is what I am thinking of doing.  I find that is a great chance for feedback.  I hate to admit it, but sometimes my plans are flawed and throwing it open to someone else helps me determine what is best.
I am not dependant on others, but often if a couple of people determine something is a goer, I am inclined to go for it.  If, on the other hand, the consensus seems to be “no way,” I will have another look.   Often a chorus of no’s, particularly by those that have been there done that, makes me think maybe they know something that I don’t.
Yet when I declare something, I feel I am committed to it.  I guess it is a case of having put it out there.  I look pretty silly having said something and then not doing it.  Besides my credibility suffers big time.
The boy who cried wolf declared something, and people realized what he said was not true.  When it was true, he was not believed.  I felt terrible when I saw a dad tell his son they would do something the next day, and experience had taught me it was not true.  Sure enough, it never happened.
To me, declaring something takes it from the realm of maybe to definitely.  Once said I will try to do something though no one knows what tomorrow will bring (who expected the Covid19 virus happening like it did).  But for me a declaration means I will do what I can to make it happen.
I am disinclined to declare something if I do not believe it in my heart of hearts.  To me, that is a recipe for giving up when obstacles appears.  From my experience there will be obstacles.  There is always opposition to anything that is worthwhile perusing.  They can come from me, from others, from circumstances, or all of them at once.  Sometimes holding on is all I can do.  It can seem the world is against me.  No wonder they say, “never doubt in the dark what was true in the light.”
Going for something worthwhile can be a lonely place.  But what I am going for is usually not someone else’s dream but mine.  Seeing it happen is up to me.  It is either right for me or it is not.  If it is, then opposition serves only to make my determination stronger.  All objections are considered, but if my resolve is in play and I have thought it through, they are never “show-stoppers.”   I may need to make adjustments, but I don’t need to give up.
Something may start inside me, but it is not a goer until I declare it.  To me, it is only when my heart and words are aligned that I can achieve something.  Hopefully something worthwhile.
