Decisions

I cannot believe how quick some are who are intent on doing wrong.  In Townsville I had someone come on to my property at night.  He had not seen me.  I asked him what he was doing, and it was at that point I discovered how quickly responses are given that seem perfectly reasonable.  He went on his way and I was glad.  I don’t reckon I look like the most threatening or intimidating person.
It seems to me that while ever there are people who will part with their money easily there are those that will take it off them with as little effort as possible.  To me it is one of the reasons cyber crime is so prolific.  Emails are sent saying I have inherited a million dollars or emails are sent looking for those who are looking for love.  When an automatic email is sent by someone with a motive for a quick buck and very little work, and only ½ a percent respond, that can be a huge windfall.
Yet I need to be careful.  Some are very practiced in the art of deception.  I need to be on my guard.  The reason counterfeit money so often works is it looks like the real thing.
But there are also those out there with a legitimate need.  My answer should not always be a default no.
Even then I need to take care as there will always be needs and I can give anytime.  But that does not mean every need represents an automatic yes for me.  I would be bankrupt in no time and would be among the needy myself.
Robin Hood robbed a rich guy and gave the money to a poor guy.  The poor guy said “I’m rich”  and Robin said “stick em up.”  That really has nothing to do with anything, but I thought of it while writing this and wanted to say it.
I reckon I need to approach things on a case-by-case basis.  Often it is my role to help.  But I need to know it is my role to help.  Sometimes it is someone else’s.  I do not want to commit myself to something that keeps me from doing what I know is mine to do. Unfortunately for some it is all about them and I am only a means to their end.
There are heaps of things I could do which I know will help with the plight of some.  Merril and I were told of someone who legitimately needs assistance.  Apparently, we came to mind.  We discussed it and decided we were at our limit.  We want to help but helping could just as easily bring us down.  It is not easy for us to do but it is a must for us.
I am big on determining the validity of an action by the fruit it produces.  Inevitably wrong decisions make me uptight and distracted.  Right decisions free me up to keep on going in doing what I am doing.  It is all a learning process.  As my boss would say, he did not mind someone making a mistake – it was if they made the same mistake twice.  If my wrong decisions lead to my right decisions I am a happy camper.
