Decisions

Cli“Most people don’t have a problem, they just have a decision to make.”  Whoa, heavy dude.  Well, yes.
That statement is an incredible generalization, but it has been one of the things that has guided me.  Some problems are really complex and as Rome wasn’t built in a day, so some problems take days to solve.  One thing that seems to be true is no matter what, all problems require a decision.
I made a decision concerning maths.  I chose to go around rather than through.  It seems so ironic that there were three of us that chose to do no maths at school, and we all ended up working with figures.  My eyes glaze over at the mention of sin, coz and tan.  You’ve lost me if you mention if (a+b+c)-(d)/(e+f)*(g+h)/(i-j) +k/l+(m*n)*(o+p-p)+(q*r*s*t)+ u+v+w /x*y = z.  If j is 14 what is c?  My decision was not to go there, though in hindsight it would have been handy.  I do know what c is.  It is a letter of the English alphabet.
For me I like a decision that liberates.  On tv there seems to be so many shows where a person makes a bad decision.  I don’t know that a bad decision can ever be a good decision.  If the decision means someone is harmed it is generally a bad decision.  If it means that once I would have harmed some one and I decide not to this time, I reckon that is a good decision.  There are exceptions though.  I don’t want to be up a stream without a paddle.  For me, there are times when harming someone is justified – like if my country is being invaded.  I will try and do what is necessary to stop that from happening.
In one episode of Frazier I laughed.  I think the reason I laughed was I saw myself in the situation.  He had had a real problem with someone.  The whole episode was about him working through it.  Finally he had.  He could go on.  Then someone unthinkingly shut a door in his face.  He took it personally.  His look said “Houston, we have a problem.”
Most decisions are inconsequential.  Some are not.  If I let them, some can be show stoppers.  I can let something ferment and fester.  I can decide that that’s it.  I’m staying here, and no matter what I am going to deal with this as I see fit.  I think the stabbing of Monica Sellars the tennis player was like that.  The incident with Tonya Harding seems like that.  Decisions were made that were not good for anyone.  I am reminded of “oh what a tangled web we weave…”
I can’t pontificate as that could be me.  Besides living my own life is challenge enough without trying to live someone else’s.  It would be nice to think that all my decisions were good and right.  The truth is they were not.  But nothing need be final.
What matters to me is that I learn and move on.  If I stop, then who knows what I miss out on.  There was a decision I made that was most important of all.    There is no doubt life is different to what it was.ck here to edit.
