Day  Two

So here we are on day three.
Yesterday was a good day.  The scheduled tour had been cancelled so we booked another to visit Fremantle.  That was in the arvo.
In the morning we decided to explore Perth a little.  It sort of did not matter that we did not have a car as there are a number of buses called CATs (which stands for something).  They are different colours and do free trips where a person can hop on and off at their leisure.  We did the Yellow bus and the Blue bus.
Brisbane had the reputation of being a big country town.  I think it has outgrown that label now but I felt Peth was that.  Sure it has its share of tell buildings but has a different feel.  I do wonder what Brisbane city is like these days as there seemed to be more people with mental health or drug problems in evidence.
Our motel is directly opposite the entertainment venue.  Last night someone famous was performing.  We heard nothing in our room but on venturing outside the crowd looked rough to me.
In the afternoon we did the tour of Fremantle and also Kings park in Perth.  It turned out we were the only two.  But I think the tour guide was pleased to have people genuinely interested.  Kings park is beautiful.  We spent time there exploring and getting ourselves a memento of our visit.  There seems to be a number of monuments to those who fought in various wars.
We did visit another place that had a monument to navy personnel.  The one at Kings park was nore to do with army and air force.
The guide was a wealth of information and obviously delights in the place he lives.  One thing he did say in response to my comment about our known history being brief was that other places have a lot of history but we have a lot of geography.
Another thing he said that I had not considered but that righs true was the indigenous population or sort of close to Indian.  Many of the names have a root base that is close to the Indian population.  That sort of feels right to me as the peoples in many ways do not look dissimilar.
Fremantle was closer to Peth than I realized.  Its suburbs have actually merged with Peth.  But it does have a plethora of old buildings.  We spent time at the markets there.  On shop we avoided as it was full of Australian memorabilia but I felt a closer look would have revealed most items to be made in China.
Today is a Swan river cruise.  Nice place.  Does not want to make me move here though.
