Dance

I carry on like a chook.  When someone comments that I am not dancing I like to say “I’m dancing on the inside.”  It is a really poor excuse I know but it works for me.
I played a guy socially in table tennis who was way better than me.  Boy was I perspiring.  Not him though.  Merril and I commented to him, “you’re not even sweating”.  He said, “I’m sweating on the inside.”  Yeah right.
I do do a pretty mean “Sprinkler” dance but it only involves the upper torso.  I have never been able to do it really but I have always enjoyed watching it.  In fact a synchronized group dancing I really like to see.  They had on tv an Australian guy that had produced a new type of dancing.  I thought it was great watching he and his partner going for it.
Having said that though I do not remember seeing any Australian dance apart from that done by first nations.  I suppose that is not surprizing really when white settlement was initially characterized by convicts.  I suppose they had more of an inclination to sleep rather than dance.
I do think that dancing on the inside is an attitude thing too.  Ok I have never been able to dance, and with what has happened I do not think I am about to start now, but dancing on the inside is legit I reckon.  When I am at peace with in myself, and am excited about what is happening and the future, I want to dance.
Maybe I want to give it physical expression but I am happy to settle for the next best thing for me.  Dancing on the inside.  Ok maybe my table tennis results do not make me inclined to do a jig but dancing on the inside suggests something more than a dependence on current circumstances. 
Just as well really.  My response to bad things happening is not normally one of sheer joy.  But thankfully the good things outweigh the bad things, and it is only going to get better.  I must admit the older I get the less inclined I am to want to dance.  For sure I am young at heart but I still am not inclined to want to break into dance.  I am already discovering after the event, muscles I never knew I had.  Unfortunately it is not normally a pleasant discovery.
So I think I will stick to dancing on the inside.  There is plenty of that.
