Something I came across recently rang such a bell with me.  It was something said by a fella from the south of the States.  He said, “the biggest problem with life is that it is so daily.”  The more I considered that one, the truer I found it.
There is no doubt there has been momentous events in my life - both good and bad.  I think everyone could say that.  Being born was fairly momentous for me.  I would say for my mum too.  Any graduation seems to have been fairly momentous.  I remember leaving primary school and secondary school.  I remember doing various courses and graduating.
For me getting jobs was fairly momentous.  There were not as many jobs as there are for some today.  The first I went for I was told I was the only one who could put a sentence together.  I did not have a licence though, so I did not get it.  I worked for the railways, CES, the Marine Park Authority, sold real estate, and ended with QUT.
Getting married was momentous.
It seems though everyone has their own momentous experiences.  Some are common to most, while others are unique.
Other momentous experiences I would prefer to do without.  But some are the lot of man.  Anyone born is destined to die.  Never nice to be a part of.  Accidents are never pleasant.  Some are horrendous.  Ill health is a downer.  Mostly these things are not invited, but they happen.  It is easier to say than to do, but it is how we go through something that is more important than what we go through.
All these things are the exception.  Some are good.  Some are bad.  But my life has been made up of many more daily things, than life changing things.  Plus the biggies tend to happen all at once.  There are heaps of daily things then bang, there are several momentous ones.  That is the way it has been for me.
I have always found complacency presents the greatest danger for me.  When big things happen, I tend to rely on what I need to.  Yet when things just go along in a daily fashion I am vulnerable.  Never over night, but subtly.   I guess it is a bit like drifting with the tide.  Land can be a lot further away than it was when I dozed off.  Empires seem to have a similar fate.  They often come undone when at ease.
Before 911 the word was in cruise control.  Things were good.  Then 911 happened and the world was a different place.  It seems we had gotten used to the way things were (not as good as they had been, but ok.)  Then Covid came along and the world has changed again.
For me, that sort of change can happen internally to.  If I am in cruise control things can change for the worse and I am not ready for it.  I learn to accept things the way they are and then things take a turn for the worse again.
Thankfully the inverse is true too.  When I am using the daily events to grow stronger, then when the unexpected comes along, I have built up reserves to deal with it.
To me, daily is important.  Some animals collect food in the summer for the winter.  It seems as sure as night follows day good times are followed by bad times.  If I have collected food in the good times I will have enough for the bad times.
