Curiosity and Drive

Something James Clear wrote in an email I really like. “People can help you in many ways throughout life, but there are two things nobody can give you: curiosity and drive…
If you are not interested and curious, all the information in the world can be at your fingertips, but it will be relatively useless. If you are not motivated and driven, whatever connections or opportunities are available to you will be rendered inert.
Now, you won't feel curious and driven about every area of life, and that's fine. But it really pays to find something that lights you up. This is one of the primary quests of life: to find the thing that ignites your curiosity and drive.
There are many recipes for success… But nearly all recipes include two ingredients: curiosity and drive.
I am big on curiosity and drive.  Drive for me can have negative implications but in this context I believe it means the willingness and desire to not only have an interest in something, but a willingness to do something about making it better.
I know I have curiosity and drive concerning my marriage, the garden, the church and people around me.  To me that means my curiosity determines I am interested in these things and my drive means I am willing to work to make them better.
I very much like the sentence, “it really pays to find something that lights you up.”
I appreciate that not all work situations are born of interest and drive.  Sometimes they are done just to make ends meet.  But I do believe where possible I need to find what I am passionate about or driven by and pursue them.
I do reckon I should aim to find what drives me rather than to spend my life involved in something whereby I say at the end of my life “well that did nothing for me.”  So as much as possible I need to find my passions.  Where possible that can be done at work and unhindered it can be usually be done after hours.
Whatever drives me my aim is always to look at ways of making things better.  Even when it becomes (as it does) a team effort, the end result that satisfies me is leaving something better than I found it.
