Cues

I definitely make it hard for myself.  A book was delivered that I ordered.  I looked at bits of it and liked it.  But I have other things I am reading right now I like too, so it will just need to wait.
I had thought maybe I would do heaps of physical work but I decided I would not.  Instead I did heaps of stuff on my computer.  Writing and thinking.
There is something I have been giving a lot of thought to in recent times that I read about in Atomic Habits.  That is cues. He  contends that a small change in what I see can lead to a big change in what I do.
He says much behaviour is sabotaged by cues that I have that work against my motivation.  He sites an example of when he had a smaller place he would work at the kitchen table.  He found it really hard to switch out of work mode because of the association he had of table equalling work.  It was only when he got another place that had a home office did he start to associate work not with the kitchen table but with his office.
He knew that to work he went to the office.  Eating and shooting the breeze was for the table.  The kitchen table was no longer associated with work and he was able to fulfil a long time motivation of spending more time talking with the family.
Even before I read this I had been working on cues that I felt were not assisting me in following my motives even though I felt the y were strong.
The lesson for me is to do what I have got to do.  That to me is the proof that my motive is not simply a wish but a desire I am willing to pursue and do something about to make it a reality.
I know I have a long way to go with such things, but I am finding that when I absorb a lot of information some sticks.  I prefer too much to get some, rather than a little to get none.
