Crow Talk

5/3/2021

There is stuff I could be doing but I am not.  Get over it.
I am watching a crow walk around the yard.  I have always heard birds eat worms, but I had never considered how it is done.  They generally do not get the worms from Uber eats.  Nor do people wait on them and when they have finished take their plate.
The crow wanders about the yard and puts its beak into the ground at random.  I reckon it is a great way of aerating our yard, but that is the least of the crows concerns.  The crow wants food.  It seems that where it puts its beak is a random thing.  It does it hoping there is a worm somewhere near the beak.  It does not know.  It hopes.
Crows are programmed that if at first they don’t succeed, they try again.  This morning I saw what success looks like for a hungry crow.  Its beak contained a juicy worm.  Juicy to the crow I am assuming.  For me it would definitely need to be cooked first.
I feel like that’s me. I don’t mean I feel like a crow.  I don’t know how a crow feels.  Besides, I do not have a beak, and thankfully I do not need to thrust my mouth into the ground to get something to eat.
Maybe I should say “in like manner” but that still does not seem right.  Metaphorically I am the same way.  I don’t know when something good is coming.  I may know I am in the right place to have a look, but sometimes I draw a blank.  But I am programmed to keep trying.  And if I keep looking, I always end up with enough to sustain me.  Starving to death is not a good look.
Sometimes when there are rich pickings the crow hangs around the same place and reaps a reward (I don’t know if all birds are the same, but crows definitely have a memory.  They know where they got food last time, and go back there first.  Pretty smart I reckon.  If I want to be successful, follow in the footsteps of a successful person). (The crow also drinks water from our watering can.  I reckon that is smart too.  Why make things harder than they need to be?  If water is just over there, drink it.)
At other times the crow wanders around the yard trying different locations and getting bits and pieces.  I wander the yard too, but generally then remember why I went out there in the first place.
There are times when one spot yields heaps for me and I hang about there.  Eventually I wander the yard (metaphorically) and try other spots.  I get stuff.  Good thing for me it doesn’t runs out.  Bit like Paul Hogan when he used to be employed to paint the Sydney harbour bridge.  By the time they completed it, it was time to start again.
I keep going back to the same area and by the time I have completed it, it is time to start again.
