Critical

The other day I heard someone say something that got me thinking.  Their comment was “everyday is supposed to be a critical and wonderful day for somebody.”
I reckon every day is a critical day for everybody.  Even days that are a write off to me are critical.  If write off days are habitual I find that harder to break.  Habits are like that.  If I want to, I can learn from write off days.  Even if it is, “I never want to go there again” it has done me good.
All non write off days can be critical to me, if I am open to learning something.  I may be on holidays, or gardening but whatever I am doing I can learn something if I am open to it.  Pulling weeds is not a past time I particularly enjoy.  But I know I have learned life lessons doing it.
I knew a fella in a wheelchair.  He learned something from the ants around his place.  If the ants felt they were being followed, well they were.  He followed their path around his place.  It’s weird.  I do not remember what he learned, but I do remember him relating how he followed the ants.
In the general scheme of things, some days are definitely more critical than others.  I may study for four years to get a Batchelor of Science degree.  The study days are critical, but graduation day is more so.  My footy team may go down 24/23.  The game is critical, but the result is more critical.  In many sports it does not matter how close it is, the winner gets the points and the loser gets nothing.
Any day can be more critical.  What starts as just another day may end up a “change of life’s direction” day.  The most innocuous thing can do it.  I knew a guy in Townsville who was at a laundromat to fix a washing machine. The trial coin was severely bent and should not have worked.  When it did work, the owner of the laundromat said “God has a sense of humour.”  From that day on his life and that of his wife’s, went in a totally different direction.  He was not expecting that.  As far as he was concerned it was just another day like any other day.  It turned out to be the most important day of his life.
To me, every day is critical.  If I am looking for nothing, I will find it.  If on the other hand I am open, then everything has something to teach me.  Even the most innocuous thing.  It does not mean though I am a continuous lean, mean, learning machine.  Sometimes washing up is just washing up.  Gardening is the same.  Heaps of things are the same.  Sometimes it is not though.
Even though it is inevitable that what is on the outside deteriorates, it does not need to be that way on the inside.  It is my choice.  I can become bitter or better.  The difference is I.
