Crisis

It is sad but true that a lot of my education these days comes from the TV.
No doubt it was not funny to the person but I laughed so hard when I heard on the tv about an Englishman who wanted to become an Australian citizen and had tried several times and failed.  Their problem?  The English test.
It is our custom to watch House on Foxtel of a week night.  Someone said something on that the other night that I have thought about heaps.  What they said has been my experience.  I am sure it is not true in all cases, but probably most.  Summing up what the person said “if someone has not changed their behaviour before a crisis, then a crisis will not cause it.”
For me that has been true, and from my observation it has been mostly true.  Certainly I change briefly, but once things settle, I am back to my old ways.  I may need to learn a whole new way of doing things, but inside I am the same person.
We have a friend who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.  She was beautiful before the crisis and she is now.  She has always cared about others.  It is no wonder people are drawn to her.  Her comment concerning the diagnosis “it just means I get promoted early.”  I have asked that she put in a good word for Merril and I.
It seems you reach a certain age and there are crisis everywhere.  I have had one.  I was not looking for it or expecting it.  It just happened.  We were talking about this the other day.  Things are expected to only happen to “other” people – far removed from us.  But they happen to us and those close to us.
I guess the upshot is, a crisis will not change who you are.
