Creep

I have past blog 1800.  No fanfare.  No whohar.  Normally I make a deal of it.  I may again but not this time.  I know sometimes I write about things that can appeal to a lot of people and other times it may appeal to a few.  But in every case I write about things that that appeal to me or I am thinking about at the time. 
Like today.  I have been thinking about “creep.”  What I mean by “creep’ is not like a creepy person but something else I try to avoid.  I saw it where I used to live and have seen it at different times. 
Someone may have had two cupboards dedicated to a particular thing.  The shelves become “full” and it is decided another cupboard is needed.  When really it is a better use of the space that is already available that s needed – not another cupboard.
It seems to me so often people fill a vacant space just because they do not like a vacant space.  Not because the space available is unavailable at all.
So that is what I refer to as creep.  What was originally determined to be the space required expands.  Rather than cull and keep items within their original confines, more items are deemed to be necessary.  Hence what was two becomes three.
I did look it up but what is referred to is “mission creep.”  It is similar to but not what I was thinking of.  Mission creep is when an “organization expands its mission beyond the original goals that were set.”  That is a term that has been embraced by business but was originally a military term.
What I find so often with creep is the gradual taking over.  Something expands beyond originally intended and can crowd out other legitimate things.  Things that may have keep within agreed frameworks.
To me it is a bit like Australia playing on a level playing field.  While doing the right thing is always the right thing, it can appear in the short term to be a loss.  Only in the short term though.  What I find with creep is it eventually comes undone.  That was true in military terms too.  Often Mission creep happened due to initial success.  It stopped when massive failure was experienced.
Creep is the same to me.  In the end it always seems to overwhelm.  In business it costs big time and in everyday life it becomes too much.  Manageable is always better to me.  Sticking with what is agreed to in the first place.  Not setting the bar so high it is unattainable.  I go for success and then spending time enjoying that success and then perhaps reassessing.
