Covid Shot

We embarked on a great adventure today.  We made sure we were well rested before we went.  Never mind that is something we would do no matter what we had planned in the day.
We had our first covid shot.  It is good to do something for myself and others.  Ok it seems just about every person and their dog that we talk to has had one.  Maybe not the dog.  Besides, we are not in the habit of talking to dogs.  Only sometimes.  When I ask the dog next door what the gross national product of Ghana is I am met with a stony silence.  I just think she doesn’t know.  I really need to ask her easier questions.
But we sallied forth.  Boldly going where, judging by the car park, lots of people had gone before.  We were not to be dissuaded.  We grabbed the fist car park we saw, and just as well it seems, as there did not look to be many available.
It is nice to be met at the door.  What did make me sus though was the person greeting me being all suited up like they were exploring another planet.  I had my temperature checked.  Seems I passed as she let me in the door and did not appear to be talking on a walkie talky with her back to me.
We approached the counter.  I reckon the makers of plastic perspex must have done really well out of the crisis.  Nowhere we go does not have it.  I don’t like to see things come between people.  But the perspex does.  Big time.  Then there is the social distancing.  It seems in some places the chairs are so far away, leaning forward to hand over documents should be a qualifying event for an Olympic sport.
Fortunately in this place, we only had to stand behind the perspex and talk to the woman behind the counter.  It was not like the Get Smarts “Cone of Silence.”  We could hear each other above the screen.
We were directed to fill something out on the ipads available.  Very modern joint.  I did not have any trouble.  Apart from the first step.  I did not know which was the Home button.  I am glad Merril did.  Given time I reckon I would have worked it out.  But Merril being there probably helped prevent a riot.
Having done all we were supposed to, we were directed to a waiting room.  It had a number of tv’s.  Unfortunately, they were not playing sport or some movie I could get right into.  They just had information about the vaccine we were getting.
We had been given some paperwork (as is always the case) that talked about rare but possible side effects.  But it highlighted the possible effects of not getting it.  People die.  Not an outcome I want.  But then the outcome of getting the shot was fraught too.  According to the paperwork four in a million people can get blood clots.  This is a chance I am willing to take.  I did clarify it with Merril when she said one in four die.  If that was the case for the shot I was going to wait in the car.  But it is like one in a million people die.
It was a bit of an anticlimax.  I hardly felt it. Apart for a bit of a sore arm I am still the same lovable, handsome, muscular, brave, successful, winning, productive, all conquering, glorious, magnificent, wonderful, modest me.
After waiting the mandatory 15 minutes we went home.
