Corridors

ClickYou’ve seen one, you’ve seen em all.  Corridors.  They are everywhere. Houses, hotels, resorts.
In our home we have one corridor. Coming off it are bedrooms, a study and bathrooms.  Going the other way it opens up to the grand vista of….the kitchen.  That is the place where the hunting and gathering instincts kick in.  I’m a bloke and I hunt.  I know there are some places that are better than others.  Animals gather there.  I tend to go back to those places.  These days that means opening the fridge or the pantry.   Merril – she gathers.  Often that involves a trip to the supermarket.  Of an evening she regularly uses a modified form of fire and cooks a sumptuous meal.  At other times we let others hunt and gather and have take-away.
Something all corridors seem to have in common is they lead from some place to another.  Occasionally they have rails for the sick or infirmed.  Really long ones can have seats, so a person can rest on the journey from one place to another.  A lot of them have paintings.  Some paintings I dismiss as they are just not me.  Others I linger and look at.
At our place we have pictures on one side, and a part of the other side is given to stamps.  They are just a sample, and also contain some of my favourites.  A feature though is some of the frames.  We sold an old home in North Queensland, and while the pictures did not mean much to us, the frames were intricate, so we kept them.
No matter how many things there are on the way to keep me interested, I have never known a corridor that was a place to set up shop.  If I chose to live there and eat and sleep and watch tv there, I reckon I would give myself a really wide birth, or make enquiries as to if I was alright.  If I was at a hotel or resort, I know I would be a talking point until I was kicked out.
I find it hard to fathom how sometimes I can be inclined to settle in a place that was just meant to be a transition area.  I particularly tend to do that if where I have come from was hard, and where I am going is that way to.
I saw a cartoon of a farmer leaning on a car window sill.  The occupants had just asked how to get from b to a.  His comment “most folk want to know how to get the other way.”
It really does not matter if I want to get from b to a or h to z.  The important thing for me is that I don’t settle in a corridor.
