We are not fond of cutting down trees but sometimes it is necessary for safety reasons.
I am looking at what remains of several trees that were in the yard.
Some were just planted too close to the fence.  One destroyed a couple of colour bond panels as the tree and panels were trying to occupy the same space at the same time.  We reckon it would have been actually a relief to our neighbour to get rid of that one.  It was very tall and used to shed leaves onto his shed.
A couple we got rid of because potentially they could fall onto where we have now built a shed.  Apparently that happened before we arrived.  One was struck by lightning and fell where the shed is now.
One I felt just had to go.  It was really tall right on our shed.  I would be concerned anytime someone was in the shed in a thunderstorm.  If it fell it could do a heap of damage.
A baby bird fell from that one, but it had enough of its wings to land safely in our trailer.  An enduring memory I have is a tough German assisting our neighbour having the baby bird in cupped hands giving it to us saying something like “I believe this is yours” (it was ours in the sense we gave it a home and tended it until it flew away itself.
We have one large tree left not counting ones we planted.  We did plant a couple to grow and block out the sun in the afternoon.  We have been amazed at how well those trees have done their job.
The one we have left an arborist checked and told us it was ok.  We do not want to be rid of it as we love it.  The birds seem to like it to.  They use it all the time to perch.
When we drive into the carport in summer it is like going into an oasis as the trees provide shade and cool.  The yard may be a work in progress, but we enjoy where it is at, and the birds have a place to be too.
