Consequences

I have no idea what he is singing about, but I have a feeling I should tiptoe through the tulips.
It seems so often these days, things are seen as inconsequential, and the advice to avoid something, is seen to come from someone who means well, but knows nothing.  Yet what that person is saying, is motivated by concern for my well-being.
Personally I like to look at origins and outcomes.  So much it seems is repackaged.  Today, anything that might be seen to be potentially negative, is done up and given a shiny new coat, and seen as the “must have” item.
Unfortunately, I have seen people buy that story, and be adversely impacted all their lives by the result of their decision.  So often, weather consciously or not, it is an “oh it won’t affect me” thing.  But they are affected.  It is like a decade’s thing.  It is like an all the life thing.   Normally it is “I wish I’d not done that” thing.  To me, there are things that may look innocuous, but are like a thunderstorm.  Unfortunately, they can be a life-long thunderstorm.
I need to ask myself why I would rush in like a bull in a china shop, when I really have time to make a considered decision.  If the advice is both, “go for it” and “I wouldn’t do that,” then it is worth considering before acting.  There seems to be nothing worse than assuming I know better.
To totally mix metaphors, I see some things like a black hole.  I really do not want to cast dispersions on black holes, but my impression is, once something is caught in its gravitational pull, it is the end of the story for that thing - unless something remarkable happens.  Actually a lot said about black holes is pure conjecture, because as far as I know, no one has ever visited one.  Certainly if they have, they did not live to tell the story.
My understanding of black holes is also that there is nothing individual about them.  Something might have once been a beautiful planet, but no one would ever know, as the nature of black holes is that they swallow up everything and create a sameness.
If I am not careful that can be my story.  Certainly I may be an individual making my own decisions, and choosing paths for myself, but I so need to consider how it ends.  What are the consequences? Is what seems fine now, how it will always be?
Like it or not, there are implications in everything I decide.  It might only be what I have for breakfast.  The saying is “we are what we eat.” There are other things I could decide which are harder to undo – like move from Brisbane to Sydney.  Now why anyone in their right mind would want to do that, is no doubt valid, but this is just an illustration.  Obviously all right minded people would advise against it.
I feel sorry for sales people.  It can be at the door, or in the shop, or on the phone, or across the desk.  It does not seem to matter where it happens, these people want me to make a decision now. They get nothing if I don’t.  Personally, I do not need that sort of pressure.  Sometimes, when I have decided, it is “forget the talk, where do I sign?”  At other times it is “hold on a minute, let me think about this.”
It seems to me it is the same for every decision I make.  Weather I know it or not, some mean very little, while some have far reaching consequences.  I ignore advice, potentially at my own peril.
