Concubine

Boy am I between a rock and a hard place with this one.  It was my turn to get a word from the dictionary.  My finger fell on the word “concubine.”
Yeah right.  Like I have had heaps of experience with that one NOT.  I used to say before I was married that “a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush but two in the bush was pretty good to” (like I know - NOT).
But I ask myself, why would you want two?  One is like a full-time job.  I remember my boss at work saying, “sometimes I do something wrong, and I don’t even know what it is.”
I guess Merril and I both getting married for the first time later in life meant we both had heaps of our own way of coping.  It seems the goal is to survive and thrive.  We both had good advice.
It is interesting hearing other people’s perspective on things.  When they found a “mass” for me the doctor told Merril I would probably need a wheelchair and would likely die soon after.  I knew none of this.  I thought it was an inconvenience, and I would be back at work in no time.
Merril had to come to grips with the fact that no sooner had she married then she may lose me.  That would no doubt be horrible.  Imagine.  Losing me when getting me is surely like winning the lotto.  (I need a longer nose but not even that helped).  She had a good talk with God about all that, and things turned out ok.  I know they did for me.
Marriage is an eye opener.  In my view we are all cases.  Living with me would take getting used to.  Living with Merril takes getting used to.  It is a common example but it is relevant.  Toothpaste.  Merril comes to the end of a tube and decides it is time for a newy.  I roll it up to extract all I can and then think, if I cut it in half, I can get one lot from one side and another lot the next time.
She cleans stuff I think looks ok.  But I must admit after she has done it, it looks better.
To me it is a long hall thing.  There are lots of good times and some not so good.  Yet I reckon if I quit when the going got tough, I would be the one missing out.
I must admit I cannot relate to this concubine thing.  Marriage to me is a whole person matter.  I have enough on my plate handling the rough edges being knocked off me and seeing the same happen to my mate.  More than one would do my head in I reckon.
