Concentric

It is dictionary day again!  And today’s word is “concentric.”  Maybe I am going around in circles but that was the word my finger fell on.  The dictionary was upside down (unbeknown to me with my eyes shut) and everything.
The simplest definition of concentric I found was, “circles and rings having the same centre.”
When I looked at the web there a great many entries concerning concentric. Some ask questions I have never thought of.  Like “Concentric vs eccentric movement: which is better for muscle growth?”  I must admit my response is like “who cares?” but obviously some do.
There was another article on cells that had more and got me in – with nice pictures. It said “Claustrophobic cells slow their own growth, forming beautiful patterns of concentric circles” and went on to say, “Like so many organisms on the planet, when cells experience mosh-pit-level crowding, they may just become stressed. Yet unlike most other life forms, cells subject to physical stress from crowding by neighbours can find some relief by dramatically slowing their own growth—and in doing so form an eye-catching pattern of concentric circles as a spectacular consequence.”  Who’d of thought.  Not me for sure.  But there is no denying from me nice patterns are formed.
There were a number of businesses that had Concentric in their name, like “Concentric” and Concentric Concepts”, and “Concentric AB” and Concentric Leadership.  I feel a bit like the guy in the ad asking, “what was that all about.”
Still the “Concentric Leadership” is a concept I had not thought about but makes sense to me.  I guess it is a bit like what I heard recently.  Actually maybe it has nothing to do with it.  But it did get me thinking about how people high up in the military get greater protection.  There is a real sense that the leadership is what an enemy will go after.  Therefore they get greater protection.    
Concentric was the word of the day for me.  Ok it is something I doubt I would have thought about if not for “Dictionary Day.”  But I do think it was something I was glad to consider in passing.
