Compartmentalize

Here I was thinking “I could write about that.”  Trouble was I could not remember what I could write about.  But I remembered.  The only way I remembered was because of the illustration used.
I thought it was a goodie.  The guy (he was a psychologist of sorts) told how he had been talking with a captain of a ship.  An alarm sounded while they were talking accompanied by a screeching sound coming from below deck.
Non plussed the captain told him that was their compartment shutter and was being shut as a part of their health and safety checks.  The shutter ensured that in the event of hitting something and putting a hole in the boat, compartments could be shut to ensure water only entered the ship in one area.  This meant the ship could stay afloat and make it to a place for repairs.  Apparently if the Titanic had of had this capacity it would not have sunk when it hit the iceberg.
The whole point of the illustration was to highlight the importance of compartmentalizing each day and not give in to worry about the past or the future.  The guy giving the illustration was known as the father of modern medicine.
It was being highlighted how destructive and unnecessary worry can be.  When given into it can be enough to sink a person.  Apparently so much being worried about is imagination only and may never come to pass.  That is one of the reasons it is recommended not to consult Doctor Google for a diagnosis.
Something else said that I liked was making the point that really worry never solves anything and sometimes the best thing to do is go back to sleep.
The reason given why each day only should be compartmentalized like that, was each day tends to have enough concerns of its own.  The human body is built to deal with what is at hand, not what may or may not be a future event.
For sure precautions need to be taken and plans need to be made but that is totally different to worry.  It is never unhealthy to be sensible, but always unhealthy to worry.
And it is a no brainer to deal with the past and leave it behind.  There is probably not a person alive who does not have regrets, but every person alive has a choice to deal with it and move on.  For sure that is healthy.  That allows time to deal with what I have the capacity to deal with, which is the matters at hand.
