Christmas Dinner

It has come and gone but we did something different on Christmas day.
Our church was holding a free dinner for anyone who wanted to come along.  About 100 people did.  The place looked really nice, and I was amazed at the amount of work the organizers did.
We had said we would help out and be there for 10 am with an 11 am start. We were loitering at home a bit, so we went at about 9am.  Merril had something to do for the event and I did some videoing.  It would have been good if I had known what I was doing.  Still, it turned out well.
So much of the food had been donated.  While I was there someone brought in a full ham they were donating.  It was beautiful.  Someone else donated a turkeyduck or something.  I was told it was a combination of a turkey, duck and chicken.  Another person donated a huge cake.  A company donates chicken which Merril collects weekly.  There was potato salad, sausages, lettuce and donated tomatoes.   There was other good stuff too.
And the people came.  It is unfortunate that a number are doing it tough at the moment, but it was great this was available.  A number of people availed themselves of it.  In fact, we had to set up more tables as the people were coming.
A number of presents were given out to the kids.  Then adults and kids alike could get what they wanted of stuff being given away.  Take Away containers were provided for anyone who wanted something of the food that was left for later on.
It was not the usual way Merril and I spend Christmas, but it was a good way and it was great to see people enjoying a good meal in celebration of the birth of the King.
