Change
I was considering change.  For some it is like a dirty word.  I downloaded a small ebook recently that talks about making change happen when no-one wants it.  Change is happening big time.  As I have written, change is assured except from a vending machine.
It is said, “why change what is working?”  I appreciate that as far as it goes.  If I am where I want to be, why change what works?  But if I am not there, change may be needed and the way things were, is at best a good fallback position.
Please excuse my ignorance but there is something I have trouble understanding.  So often it seems people see a need and declare, “if it were like this or that the problem would be solved.”  And yet that someone perpetuates the problem rather than solves it.  I admit Merril and I have trouble understanding protests against the amount of rubbish being poured into the environment, when we see the amount of rubbish left behind by the protesters.
I love something Barack Obama said.  “We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.”  It is one thing to decry something, and another to do something about it.  My role may not be to legislate, but it is always to be a part of the answer and not of the problem.  Enough of us doing that and change just happens.  Majority views may win the day, but only majority actions change things.
When we go on holidays Merril and I always try to leave a place better than we found it.  Leaving it the same is the base line, but our goal is always to surpass the base line.  That is a win for everyone.
That is not easy.  I may win a race from last position or leading, but it is not won until it is won.  I have found there is one thing for sure though, I will not win if I have not put in the hard yards.
Having the right help helps.  The best coaches to me are the ones who make success of failures rather than those who make a success of successes.  That is the sort of coach I need.  I am not a bootstrap person.  Besides, I do not see the point really.  Even if I pull myself up by my bootstraps, I am still in the same room.
Change takes me out of my comfort zone.  Yet the choice is mine if I want to embrace it.  If so, in the words of Alan Watts, I need to “join the dance.”
