Change

Today was spent readjusting a room in our home.
Some folk have places that are manicured.  Nothing is out of place, and it looks like there is nothing to do.  That is not us.  Certainly our place is good, but there is plenty that needs doing besides maintenance.
We had purchased a couple of book shelves and some pool fencing from gumtree.  They were in different places.  We got our trailer and went to pick them up.  The book cases were way bigger than they had looked.  It looked like we had a mountain in the trailer.  Fortunately the guy at the place we purchased them knew knots.  I do an excellent bow, but that is really as good as it gets.  Oh I do other knots when I need to, but just don’t ask me to repeat what I do.
Anyway the book cases were excellently tied, and were not going anywhere. We made like an old couple on the trip home and went slow and steady.  The pool fencing was a piece of cake.  The fencing still needs to be installed but the book shelves are in place (the fencing is now installed – see Merrils page for post)
It is strange but readjusting the room is like what I need to do with my life sometimes.  Comfortable is not necessarily a good place for me to be.  Sure sometimes it is, but I need to be challenged.  I heard someone once say they were satisfied with an unsatisfied satisfaction.  I think I get that.
One of the first sayings I remember hearing and remembering was “everything left to itself, tends to decay.” (I think of an apple.  A McDonalds meal takes a lot longer because of the preservatives.)  I don’t know that there is any such thing as me standing still.  I am either going forwards or backwards.  Certainly sometimes I need to reassess and rejuvenate, but it is generally with some future purpose in mind.
 I can rail against good change or embrace it and move on.  I choose the latter.
