Chairs

Mentioning chairs and containers for a second time is not obsession is it?
I feel I need to rush around putting out potential bush fires when it comes to chairs.  I like a good chair.  I can’t say though that my liking chairs extends to seeing them in the shop and wanting them.
For Merril it is different.  If there is a nice chair in the shop, it needs a home.  Our home preferably.  We did have too many.  We did a cull.  I’m wracking my brain to think of what went.
Right now we even have “little people chairs.”  We have them just in case little people come to eat.  We used them once.  Two of them anyway.  That was a red-letter day for us.  A “quick get the parents autograph” day.
I tried to tell a big friend of mine that the little chair was for him.  He didn’t buy it.  Just as well really, as it was not for sale.  Though if the right price had been offered, it would have been.
We still have those “little people” chairs but they are stacked up.  For a couple of weeks we had them out.  They looked really good.  Trouble was, no one used them.  With heavy hearts we packed them up.  It would be cruel of you to mention them in jest and see the life return to our faces only to see it drain away again.  One never knows though.  In 2041 we may need them.
I really think we can work this one out.  Different story when it comes to containers though.  I saw what an uphill battle it was when another lady was told of the container thing and she and Merril discussed with rapturous joy the wonders of containers.  Seems one can never have too many.  I will take issue with that as soon as I can clear a way through these containers to my computer.
I have learned that when shopping it is best to walk quickly past the container isle.  Invariably though it is too no avail.  Merril lingers.  “don’t we need this container?  Look, it is the perfect size to hold one piece of fruit and see it can be sealed to retain its freshness.”  I’m sure it will make someone happy.  I just don’t want that someone to be us.
It is a bit the same in the women’s clothing isles.  And the jewellery isle.  “If you really loved me you would spend a couple of mil on this Faberge tiara, diamond ring and necklace set.” For one we can’t afford it, and for two we can’t afford it.  Points three to five are the same.
It is no wonder I am not a good shopper.  I walk so fast it is like I am in training for the Olympic walking marathon.
I suppose it is horses for courses though.  Not that we resemble horses in any way.  Using my foot to count to four is purely co-incidental.
I know I do linger.  When it comes to men’s clothing or shoes, I am happy to take it all in.  And if I do have something I have determined I need, I am a man on a mission.
It does not seem to matter to Merril though.  For her the shopping experience is to be enjoyed.  For me it is to be endured.  By the way, wanna buy a chair?
