Catching Days

Today I get an email for James Clear.  It is titled 3-2-1-.  It contains three quotes from him, two quotes from others and one question from him.  When I have written something inspired by his thoughts in the past, it has always been triggered by his thoughts.
Today what got my attention was one of the quotes from another person.  It was Annie Dillard on the value of a schedule:
"How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives. What we do with this hour, and that one, is what we are doing. A schedule defends from chaos and whim. It is a net for catching days."  Source: The Writing Life
What got my attention was the last sentence. “[A schedule] is a net for catching days.” 
I have found that time has a way of getting away.  Days seem to fly by.  Merril and I have a diary for the big things.  We need to know what is happening when.  We are good with those but even then we occasionally miss an event.  But on the whole we are good.
It is just a personal thing for me but I take things one step further.  I make a list of things I am doing at that tie when I feel to and things I want to do at other times.  For me it is totally necessary.  I have been doing it for a number of years.
The reason is if I do not write it down I am likely to forget.  I could not say how often I remember something that needs doing and imagine I will remember that when I need to and it remains an imagining.  Things get forgotten.  Items that were to be a part of the activity remain and need to be done another time.
I attempt to avoid that.  I am in the habit of “doing it now.”  Often when something occurs, I do not trust m memory to remember it later.  In fact if it is not written down there is a good chance I will forget it and regret it.
I guess it is really just a habit.  I do love the thought that a schedule is a net for catching days.  For me it is not just the days that need to be caught but the things in what the day contains.  I guess in a sense it is like macro and micro-managing.
Certainly not exciting but for me, necessary.
