Cash for Cans 2

26/2/2020

We were at “Cash for Cans” again this morning.
It is the sort of place where a person takes cans and bottles and cardboard containers, to redeem the 10c each they are worth.  Some do it for their club, and others do it for various causes.  We do it for the church we go to.  Every little bit helps.  Judging by the people there, there are a lot of little bits.
We made over $50.  That is over 500 containers.  There was a couple of guys there who I think belong to a club.  They had huge bags and other containers.  They were going to be ages.  In fact, the person that wanders about making sure everything is ok, walked up to me and commented on how many they had.
Mind you it is not the sort of place a person needs to get dresses up to, to go.  Not once did we spot Mr and Mrs Brown there in their finery.  I was forced at no stage to comment on the high quality of Mr Brown’s suite.  If Mr Brown was there, then it was incognito.  Just looking like everyone else.
It is a good place to strike up conversations though.  We talked to both the people in front of us and the person behind.  I don’t think we stood out for all the wrong reasons.
To me it is a great idea.  I see disregarded cans now and want to snavel them.  It is only because they are like orphans and all alone of course.  Though I do see less of them these days.  It seems many have seen the potential in collecting them and getting the brass on offer.  I was mowing and saw a can that had obviously been thoughtlessly disposed of on a footpath.  It looked like I was doing my civic duty collecting it.  I did have an ulterior motive though.  I saw potential in that can!  Something no one had any use for had a purpose!  Well to me 10c is 10c.
We now have a rubbish bin down the front of our place that proclaims, “Cash of Cans.”  It is just as well we are contributing to it as it does not look like anyone else is.  Still I look at it like fishing.  If I don’t have my line in the water, I cannot catch a thing.  There are times I catch nothing anyway.  I pack up my things and go home.  I am especially inclined to do that if I know there is a good movie on, or a meal I really would like is on the way.  Other times the waiting pays off and something big grabs the line.  I just don’t know what will happen.  That is the nature of fishing.  I may do everything right to no avail.  At other times the only thing I have done right is to get a line in the water and I pull them in.
In both cases the only common denominator is I have a line in the water.  Our bin is a line in the water.  So far it has been unsuccessful.  But we are going to leave it there as something big may come along.
If you are wondering what to do with your redeemable containers.  Pick us! Pick us!
