Caring and Sharing

People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.
I am all for education.  I am all for knowing as much as I can about as much as I can.  I personally think it is in the interests of all that I am able to assist when I am able, or point to someone who can when I cannot.
Merril was at a shopping centre when someone collapsed in front of her.  They were having a heart attack.  Merril was able to assist that person and keep them alive because of what she knew.  She wrote to the shopping centre and told them they needed to do such and such.  They did and now they are considered one of the best and most ready to help when it is needed.
My ability to assist has not been fixing a life-threatening situation, but it has been helpful where needed.  Lightening a load.  Imparting what I have learned over the years.  Treating others as I would like to be treated.
It is not a matter to me of doing something because I know it will be reciprocated, but doing something knowing it cannot be reciprocated.  My treatment of others matters more to me than others treatment of me.
But for me the more highly educated I am does not equate to the more highly caring I am.  When someone is hungry or hurting it is not my degrees that provide an answer, but my attending to the need at hand.  Maybe my degrees will help in providing the best answer.  But to me a degree is not an end in itself but a means to an end.
If I liken myself to a glass of water, it does not automatically do another any good if I am full to the brim.  What does another good is my sharing my water to their benefit.
It is a given I will not always feel like it, but it is a given that helping another will always have a positive impact.
